Overview

License Search supports verification and research using the public California cannabis license dataset exposed by Higher Origins.

Open the public California Cannabis License Search. Enter a license number, business name, license type, or other identifying term, then choose Search. Results show the business name, license number, issue and expiration dates, subtype, and current indexed status.

The search landing page also summarizes current active licenses, shows active retail locations on a map, and lists recently issued and recently inactive records when those data sets are available.

Filter license results

Open Search Filters to narrow the same search instead of relying on the text query alone. Applied filters appear above the results and can be removed individually.

  • Region, Status, Category, Type, and Sub Type narrow the license classification and location.

  • Issued After, Issued Before, Expires After, and Expires Before constrain the recorded license dates.

  • Active During After and Active During Before find records active within the chosen period.

  • Designation separates Adult-Use and Medicinal records; Term separates Annual and Provisional licenses.

  • Business Structure filters the indexed ownership structure. Show Associated Licenses also includes records connected to the same operator or owner.

Inspect a license

Select a business name in the results to open its license record. Review status, number, type and subtype, issue and expiration dates, term, designation, region, refresh date, and the linked Department of Cannabis Control source. Available ownership, category, address, and cultivation-capacity information appears when the indexed record contains it.

Associated Licenses groups records connected through matching names, contact information, or shared owners. Switch between List, Graph, and Map to examine the relationship. The map is limited to active retail locations with usable coordinates.

Choose Summarize from a result set to apply the current query and filters to aggregate views. Overview reports totals, status and regional distributions, time trends, operators, and business structures. Geography focuses on regions and cities. License Types compares types and subtypes. Operators summarizes operator and owner relationships.

License information can change after it was imported or indexed. Treat the displayed freshness and source as part of the result.
